college advising package
The College Advising Package helps families maintain a strategic advantage and balanced perspective throughout high school, from freshman year through the college application process. We guide families through the entire journey, helping students discover their passions, remain energized, and create unique, compelling narratives that highlight their strengths.
-
strategy sessions
Families meet on a quarterly basis (until junior fall) to create an individualized action plan centered around each student’s needs. Starting junior fall, students meet on a monthly basis for progress check-ins and additional strategy sessions. During the application season (July-December), students meet as often as needed to complete their applications.
-
profile development
Students receive counsel throughout the year that covers strategic course selection, extracurricular engagement, programs, and leadership opportunities that will strengthen the student’s overall profile in anticipation of the application process.
-
school visit planning
Students receive advice on which schools to tour, as well as assistance in contacting regional reps in advance of visits and guidance in developing thoughtful questions. In addition, we help students evaluate their experiences and follow up on key conversations.
-
school selection
We analyze each student’s profile and generate a balanced list of suggested colleges given the student’s personality, academic and extracurricular profile, goals, and interests.
-
standardized testing strategy
We advise on which standardized test scores to submit in accordance with each university's policy, and offer guidance on additional test-taking. We also help coordinate SAT/ACT tutoring as needed.
-
essay brainstorming & drafting
We lead brainstorming sessions for the Common Application essay and all supplemental essays. We then work closely with students to craft detailed outlines and assist with every stage of the writing process.
-
essay review
We conduct a final review of all essays before submission to proofread and ensure that our students present a cohesive narrative that effectively highlights their strengths.
-
activities résumé
Students will be provided with a résumé template, and we support in crafting thoughtful, informative descriptions. This résumé will be given to recommenders and interviewers to clearly present the student’s activities and accomplishments.
-
interview preparation
We conduct mock interviews with our students and provide lists of school-specific suggestions and questions to anticipate. We also assist students in composing personalized thank you notes to interviewers.
-
letters of recommendation
We help students navigate communications with their school counselors, and if required by the school, provide support drafting "brag sheets" or "student questionnaires," which may be used to help the counselor write compelling letters of recommendation on a student’s behalf. When applicable, we also provide guidance on which outside additional letters of recommendation to request to further strengthen the student's application.
-
deferral & waitlist letters
If our students receive deferral or waitlist decisions, we help them craft letters of continued interest that highlight key developments in their academic and extracurricular life.
-
once admitted
Students receive insight into selecting a school to attend. If necessary, we also continue to offer advice on navigating deferrals or waitlists alongside admissions to increase the chance of acceptance.
